Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has approved the payment of N8.2 billion in gratuities to 3,204 retirees from both state and local government services.

At the flag-off ceremony yesterday, Yahaya reaffirmed his commitment to clearing all outstanding gratuities by 2027.

The current disbursement includes N6.6 billion for state retirees covering 2021–2023 and payments for 162 local government retirees across 11 councils.

He said subsequent payments would cover 2024–2025 retirees, ensuring full clearance by the first quarter of 2027.

“No retiree in Gombe State will be left waiting for their entitlements,” he pledged.

Yahaya outlined a phased payment plan for local governments, allowing each to systematically clear arrears from previous years. Since taking office in 2019, his administration has paid N33.83 billion in gratuities and pension liabilities — the highest in the state’s history.

The State Auditor-General and Chairman of the Gratuity Payment Committee, Mohammad Buba Gombe, said the exercise demonstrates fiscal discipline and compassion for retired workers.
