Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has inspected an ongoing erosion control and road projects in Gombe metropolis, to assess the progress of work.

During the tour, he inspected ongoing works for the N2.9 billion erosion control project within the premises of the Gombe State University, the ongoing 1.2 km road from Danaje in the Gandu area, which connects the Idi quarters dual carriageway and the proposed 1km Idi- Kasuwan Doya- Babban Layi- Main Market road.

The governor also inspected the 1.6 km Layin Kerosene- Jubilee Junction road with a spur in Herwagana area of the Gombe metropolis.

He was taken round and briefed on the progress of work by officials of the state Ministry of Works and Housing and the project manager of the construction company handling the projects.

Governor Yahaya also cautioned residents of the state against building on waterways, encroaching into public spaces and indiscriminate dumping of waste.

He said since compensations had been paid to people whose structures were removed to pave way for the project, there should no longer be buildings on those spaces, gullies and waterways after completion of the projects.

The governor pledged that the administration was committed to ensuring a habitable and healthy environment for the people as well as address the infrastructural deficit in the state to provide people with dividends of democracy.

“I urge you all to desist from dumping wastes indiscriminately in gullies, waterways and other public spaces and as I have always said, there is no reason for people to return to build on the sites after they are paid compensation,” he said.
