The Gombe State Government has commenced the resurvey and remapping of 37 cattle routes and eight grazing reserves across the state to address recurring farmer-herder conflicts.

The exercise is being implemented under the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project as part of efforts by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s administration to promote peaceful coexistence and strengthen agriculture.

L-PRES State Coordinator, Prof. Usman Bello Abubakar, said the intervention became necessary following frequent disputes between farmers and herders over encroachment on cattle paths and destruction of farmlands.

Recently, a delegation led by the project’s Social Safeguard Officer, Barrister Naomi Abdu Mwalin, alongside security officials, traditional rulers and pastoralist leaders, visited Kunji village in Yamaltu-Deba LGA to assess complaints of route encroachment and farmland destruction.

The government said it would continue engaging stakeholders to ensure lasting solutions and prevent clashes from degenerating into violence.
