The Gombe State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has inaugurated newly appointed chairmen for various sports associations, signalling a new chapter for sports administration in the state. The move follows the dissolution of the previous leadership in August after the expiration of their tenure.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the ministry’s conference hall, was presided over by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Ibrahim Inuwa Pantami.

In his address, Hon. Pantami congratulated the new appointees and urged them to implement strategic programmes aimed at reviving Gombe’s legacy of sporting excellence within the North-East and across Nigeria.

“Your appointment reflects your proven commitment and track record in sports development. We expect you to bring that experience and energy to reposition Gombe where it rightly belongs in the Nigerian sports arena,” he said.

The Commissioner also appreciated the contributions of the outgoing executives, acknowledging their role in laying a solid foundation for sports growth in the state.

 “We commend the outgoing leaders for their dedication. You have built a base, and it is now the responsibility of the new leadership to elevate Gombe sports to greater heights,” Pantami added.

Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated chairmen, Hon. Abdullahi Garba Talasse, Chairman of the Cycling Association, thanked the state government for the confidence reposed in them and pledged collective commitment to advancing sports development across Gombe State.

The newly inaugurated chairmen will serve for a two-year term, overseeing disciplines including taekwondo, basketball, athletics, weightlifting, wrestling, boxing, volleyball, and others.

Observers describe the inauguration as a renewed effort by the Gombe State Government to strengthen grassroots sports, discover new talents, and foster youth engagement through active participation in sports across the state.
