The Gombe State Government has commissioned 103 revitalised Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the 11 local government areas of the state, towards improving healthcare delivery, and boosting maternal and children’s health.
The intervention, carried out under the World Bank-supported IMPACT Project, was designed to expand access to essential health services in vulnerable rural communities.
Speaking during the handover of one of the upgraded facilities at Akko PHC in Akko LGA, Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, said the project marks a major milestone in the administration’s drive to strengthen primary health care across the state.
He said the event was a testament to the administration’s deep commitment to the health and well-being of the people.

“Gombe State remains committed to improving the health and well-being of our citizens. We have consistently increased funding for healthcare in our state budget from 3.5 percent in 2019 to 15 percent in the 2025 budget, which is in line with the Abuja Declaration,” he said.
The deputy governor mentioned other achievements to include the establishment of the Gombe State Contributory Health Agency (GoHealth), with over 300,000 beneficiaries, and improved drug availability through the Drug Management Agency.
Dr Jatau revealed that a total of 103 PHCs and an additional 66 health clinics have been revitalised with support from the World Bank’s IMPACT project.
He explained that each of the upgraded facilities is fitted with labour rooms, staff quarters, immunisation units, antenatal care (ANC) services, pharmacies, drug supplies, solar-powered boreholes, 24-hour solar lighting, VIP toilets, and staff accommodations.
