Garba presented cheques to the students in the state capital Gombe, saying it fulfilled a pledge he made at a lecture in honour of late Dahiru Mohammed Deba. Each of the 45 students at various institutions selected randomly for the scholarship will receive N25,000 for four academic years, said Garba. He urged striking university lecturers to call of their strike in the interest of the nation and students, insisting there is no reason whatsoever for academic staff to continue with the industrial action, because Nigeria had all it took to meet lecturer demands. Coordinator of the foundation, Adamu Talba, said selection was in favour of indigent students without means of sponsoring their education. Speaking on behalf of the students, the President of Yamaltu Deba Youth Consultative Forum, Shehu Diffa, appealed to other wealthy individuals from the state to emulate the good gesture of the speaker to the development of education in the state.
