Gombe State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Adamu Inuwa Pantami, has announced a robust initiative designed to combat youth restiveness by significantly expanding and promoting sports activities across the state.
This announcement came during a special visit from the State Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), led by Chairman Mr. Mark Nuhu Malele, who came to express their appreciation for the Commissioner’s support.
In his address, Pantami underscored the critical role that sports can play in steering young people away from negative behaviours such as drug abuse, cultism, and gang-related activities.
He emphasized that the Inuwa Yahaya administration is fully committed to harnessing the power of sports as a strategic tool for positive youth engagement.

Pantami further outlined plans for a collaborative effort with SWAN to elevate the visibility and impact of sporting events throughout Gombe State.
Drawing inspiration from the practices of developed nations, Pantami highlighted how sports can drive youth development and social progress. He called on SWAN members to be actively involved in this mission, promising to keep them integrated into the ministry’s initiatives and to support their efforts in promoting sports.
In response, SWAN Chairman Mr Mark Nuhu Malele conveyed heartfelt gratitude for the Commissioner’s unwavering support, including his engagement through his Permanent Secretary at the association’s recent election and inauguration.
Malele assured Pantami of SWAN’s enthusiasm to partner in advancing sports in Gombe, pledging to work diligently to enhance the state’s reputation on Nigeria’s sports map and to support the successful implementation of the new sports initiatives.
