The Gombe state Government has trained 54 personal as Community Based Targeting Team (CBTT) to register poor and vulnerable indigenes of the state for National Social Investment Programme.

The programme is a federal government’s initiative designed to offer N5000 monthly stipend to the poor and vulnerable citizens across the country.

The state Commissioner of Economic Planning, Alhaji Danladi Mohammed Pantami stated this at the end of the training organized by the state government in collaboration with the National Social Safety Net Coordinating Office (NASSCO).

Pantami said during the first phase of the programme, aimed at reducing extreme poverty among Nigerians, the team would register poor and vulnerable beneficiaries in various communities of the three targeted local government areas of Balanga, Nafada and Yamaltu Deba.

He explained that the registration exercise was one of the pre-conditions for the state to key into the National Social Investment Programme.

Speaking at the occasion, Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo said the state government was aware of the alarming social ranking and poverty statistics of the state especially in rural areas.

Dankwambo said government had put in place all necessary mechanisms to address the socio-economic and infrastructure problems of the people, particularly the poor and vulnerable.

Represented by his deputy, Mr. Charles Ya’u Iliya, the governor said his administration had planned to undertake the state poverty mapping in addition to the poverty statistic available from World Bank.

The governor urged the targeted local government councils to provide the enabling environment for the smooth conduct of the registration exercise.

In his remark, NASSCO acting Coordinator, Mr. Peter Papka, represented by Mr. Alli Ademola, commended the state government for its concern to the programme.

He said lack of collaboration among the three tiers of government in outlining policies contributed to the high rate of poverty in the country.
