Gombe United yesterday returned to winning ways in style after scoring three first half goals to thrash relegation bound MFM FC Lagos 3-0 at the Pantami stadium in Gombe.

The visitors who have not picked a single point in their last five matches were no match for the ‘Desert scorpions’ in the 2022 NPFL week 10 fixtures.

After losing 0-2 at Kwara United in week 9, the resounding victory over MFM was a huge relief to the teeming fans of Gombe United.

Abdulazeez Yusuf scored the opener for Gombe United in the 10th minute after he was assisted by Kelechi Chimezie.

Assisted by Abubakar Saád, Aminu Muhammed doubled Gombe United’s lead in the 42nd minute.

And in the 44th minute, Muhammed the goal scorer turned provider as he assisted Yusuf to score his second of the evening and Gombe United’s third goal of the match.

On resumption, MFM fought harder to reduce the deficit and their efforts nearly paid off in the 67th minute but Muyiwa Balogun’s dangerous cross went past Gombe United’s goal with no one to get to the end of it.

Nine minutes later, Gombe United came close to increasing their tally but Alimi Adebayo blocked the goal-bound strike by substitute, Musa Najere, from close range.

The victory has lifted Gombe United to 15th position with 12 points from three wins, three draws and four losses.
