Last week, Gombe thrashed league leaders, Sunshine Stars of Akura 3-0 to shoot up the log and are poised to win more matches in order to stand a chance of picking one of the continental tickets.
Speaking to Feverpitch yesterday, the General Co-ordinator of the club, Mallam Farouk Yarma said the sudden change in fortunes of the club is as a result of the commitment on the part of the state government.
He said unlike most other clubs in the NPL, Gombe is highly motivated because the governor of the state ensures that players and officials allowances and salaries are paid as and when due.
“Many people are wondering where we have gotten the winning wand but it is not farfetched. It is our state governor, His Excellency, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo. He has been of immense help to the club.
“He ensures that the allowances and salaries of players and their officials are paid promptly. It is in attempt to reciprocate the governor’s kind gesture that the team is currently doing well. The former governor was of immense help but His xcellency, Dankwambo has taken it to the next level”.
The General Co-ordinator however observed that the clubs major challenge at the moment is lack of a befitting bus and official cars for the club’s officials, especially members of the team’s technical crew.
He explained that for a very long time, Gombe United has been travelling to its away matches in hired buses a situation which he said has had negative effects on the club’s performance.
Yarma, therefore, called on the governor to come to the aid of the club by providing it with a befitting bus and official cars as he said this would address the transportation problems being faced.
“We are most grateful for his support to the team us but we are calling on him to provide us with a befitting bus and official cars to bring to an end the problems we face especially in travelling for away matches”.
The former Special Adviser on sports to Senator Danjuma Goje, the immediate past governor of the state, expressed confidence that Dankwambo would surely come to the aid of the club by providing it with its needs.
