The Gombe State University yesterday matriculated 3, 242 students for the 2016/2017 academic session into the faculties of Arts/Social Sciences, Science, Education, Medical Sciences and Pharmaceutical Science.

Speaking at the matriculation ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Ibrahim Musa Umar, warned them to shun cultism, drugs and examination malpractice. 

He said the institution had zero tolerance for exam malpractice, adding that it is better for a student to fail and try again than indulge in malpractice and get expelled.

Professor Umar said the university admitted the students out of the 9000 that applied for the limited slot approved for the institution by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

He added that despite being a state-owned university, admission was given to indigenes of other states, to provide opportunity for the students to interact with their counterparts from other parts of the country.

The vice chancellor outlined the completion of the Medical College and provision of infrastructure as his priorities.
