Civil servants in Gombe state have on Thursday received their salary for December, four days to Christmas, as ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari.

President Buhari has ordered all state governors to pay civil servants December salaries before Christmas, to enable them prepare and have a merry Christmas.

A correspondent who went round some commercial banks in the city says long queues to withdraw from ATMs have formed since 10am when workers began getting bank alerts of the payment.

However, some workers who spoke with Daily Trust expressed their reservation with the early payment

According to them, it will affect their January salary, which is now over 40 days ahead.

The salary is coming just one week after the civil servants got their November salary which was paid on December 12, 2017.

Daily Trust learnt that in Gombe, workers are paid salary on 8-10 of every month, as against the traditional 25-30 of the month as obtained in other states.

Some workers feared that with the early payment, they may not get their January 2018 salary till around 8-10 February, thereby making them to acquire debts.
