Good life beckons in Nigeria under Buhari – Fagbemi

“On the whole, with the new dispensation, I see a Nigeria that would be a pride of everyone, a Nigeria where we shall all have good life aplenty, where opportunities shall abound and ultimately, where the views of the masses shall, never again be taken for granted,” Fagbemi stated in Ibadan, Oyo State capital over the weekend.
The legal luminary, while delivering a public lecture under the auspices of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council remarked that the March 28, 2015 presidential election that heralded President Buhari’s government has bequeathed a good fortune on Nigeria.
“We must therefore strive to guard it (the March 28 poll) jealously as it is by doing so that we can keep the spirit of June 12 alive,” he said.
In his lecture entitled, ‘June 12, 1993 and March 28, 2015: Similarities, Dissimilarities and Expectations’, Fagbemi enjoined the federal government to immortalise the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election’, the late Chief MKO Abiola “in the most befitting and rancour-free manner’ as, according to him, Abiola was a true symbol of democracy in Nigeria.”
Fagbemi submitted that the immortalisation of Abiola should not have any political undertone like it purportedly occurred when the federal government under former President Goodluck Jonathan attempted to rename the University of Lagos (UNILAG) as Moshood Abiola University (MAU).
Fagbemi juxtaposed the historical June 12 presidential election that produced Abiola with the March 28, 2015 presidential election that produced President Muhammadu Buhari, and appealed to Nigerians to keep the spirit of June 12 alive by supporting Buhari in his quest to provide transformational leadership for the country.
The senior advocate, however decried the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election by then Military President, Ibrahim Babangida saying that the action was a legislative judgment that defied any common sense and rational logic.
