Google explains in its statement that it will be phasing out support for IE6 starting with its Google docs and Google sites and  from 1 March onwards key functionality will no longer work in the IE6 browser.

Nearly 13.5% of web users are still using some version of  the antiquated Internet Explorer 6 browser but with Google’s help hopefully this will force people to upgrade to one of a more modern solutions out there Safari, Opera, Firefox, Chrome and even IE7 and IE8.
