Bauchi State has 11 community FM radio sub-stations, including their mother station in the state capital, popularly known as the Bauchi Radio Corporations (BRCs), spread across the 20 LGAs of the state.
These radio stations play a key role in shaping the development of the state, especially among those living in rural areas. They help to create public awareness about all areas of human endeavour.
But it is unfortunate that poor manpower is currently throwing a spanner into the works of the entire BRC FM radio sub-stations of the state, including their mother station of the state capital following the retirement of virtually all their permanent workers. This sorry situation compelled managers of all the radio stations to resort to relying on casual workers.
Given the significance of these all-embracing media organs, I am appealing to the governor to reward these workers, who dedicate their time serving their dear state and enlightening people, by absorbing them into the state’s civil service.
Being a former journalist and a former radio presenter, who is well aware of the key role that community radio stations play in educating all categories of people, ranging from children and adults, educated and uneducated, men and women, dwellers of rural areas and remote regions, and a concerned citizen of my beloved state, I plead with our considerate governor to help absorb all those diligent casual workers into the state’s civil service.
Besides, the attention of the governor should be brought to the fact that apart from poor manpower, all the BRC FM radio sub-stations are suffering from serious setbacks of perimeter fences that have resulted in the loss of their valuable properties in recent years.
