The governor made the call in Abakaliki on Friday when a delegation of the Knights of St. John International paid him a courtesy visit.

Elechi, who was represented by his Deputy, Prof. Chigozie Ogbu, said the state government was determined to take the state to a higher educational level to correct the effects of long years of its educational backwardness.

“This is a task we cannot achieve alone, so we are soliciting the collaboration of private organisations to achieve the objective,’’ he said. Elechi noted that the involvement of religious bodies in the development of education would always be appreciated because it would help in the fight against moral decadence in the society.

“Schools owned by religious bodies will be in the forefront in the inculcation of moral values in our young ones.

“This has become imperative as most of the social vices recorded in the society are perpetrated by the youth,’’ he said. The governor commended the organisation for completing its model secondary school at Agba in Ishiellu Local Government Area.

“Choosing Ebonyi as the state where to establish such a school is a testimony of your desire to help in uplifting the state educationally.

“We will assist you in ensuring that the objectives of establishing the school are achieved,’’ Elechi said.

Earlier, Prof. Romanus Unegbu, the Enugu Grand Patron of the organisation, said it established the school in Ebonyi to assist in redressing the state’s educational backwardness.

The school was inaugurated by the Supreme President of the organisation, Gen. Timothy Hoerst from the United States. (NAN)
