Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s dilemma is its susceptible losing grip at winning peoples’ confidence and his failure to strike a balance between welfare policy of former Kano State Governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau implemented during his time and the massive infrastructural policy implemented by Kwankwaso while in the saddle.
His moves towards reversing Kwankwaso’s free education policy, the sacking of his perceived “loyalists” and replacing them with his “political adversaries”, the gradual return of filth in major streets, the ghost nature of the state’s APC Secretariat and the alleged rough and poor handling of street light’s management, and the move to engage revenue consultants, are some of the issues giving the new administration bad name and *sending wrong signals about its capability defending on wherever the pendulum swings.
Already the governor has been receiving flaks for his lack of tangible engagement with the people and for the *sacking of over 2,600 casual workers after *his administration had *renovated the official residence of his deputy, Professor Hafizu Abubakar with the sum of over N168 million, an amount experts say could keep the sacked workers for eight months in service.
While this continues, people are now picking information about the government from all irrational sources thereby heightening apathy, mistrust and bad feeling about the government.
