Gov Ishaku, please pay workers’ salaries

Gov. Darius Ishaku

There have been grumblings about non-payment of salaries by the administration of Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State. It degenerated from owing four months’ workers salary in the 16 LGAs in the state, to owing five months’ salaries to Taraba State University staff.

This situation has reduced many families to misery and untold hardship across the state.

It is indisputable that the 16 local government areas in the state receive monthly statutory allocations from FAAC. Unfortunately, state governors in Nigeria continuously hijack local government allocations through joint accounts.

Gov. Ishaku has also failed to implement the N30,000 new minimum wage almost two years since its approval.

Taraba is known as a salary dependent state. Figures released by the NBS in 2019 also showed 87.27 per cent of Taraba people as living below the poverty line.

Hence, there is every need for Governor Darius  Ishaku to  pay workers’ salaries.
