Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has inaugurated the Taraba State Biotechnology, Innovation and Solutions Agency (TASBISA), aimed at driving science-led economic development and agricultural modernization in the state.

Speaking at the launch in Jalingo, Governor Kefas said the agency would serve as a hub for research, innovation, and enterprise, noting that it is part of his administration’s commitment to “future-proofing Taraba’s economy” through science, technology, and youth engagement.

He stressed that the agency would harness the state’s natural resources — land, water, biodiversity, and human capital — to promote smart agriculture, biotechnology, and innovation-driven businesses.

Dr. Josiah Bitrus Habu, a biotechnologist and former Managing Director of the Bioresources Development Centre in Bayelsa, was sworn in as the pioneer Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of TASBISA.

In his remarks, Dr. Habu pledged to position Taraba as a model for smart agriculture and applied biotechnology in West Africa, describing TASBISA as “a future-ready institution that listens to science, speaks to farmers, and delivers for communities.”
