Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State on Saturday commissioned key infrastructure projects in Anka Local Government Area, saying his administration is laying a solid foundation for sustainable development across the state.

The projects commissioned include the fully reconstructed and equipped Emir’s palace, the flag-off of the Anka–Abbare Road, the construction of a new Anka Local Government Secretariat, offices for the Hisbah Commission and Community Protection Guards (CPG), as well as the reconstruction of the Safe School in Anka.

A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the projects are part of ongoing efforts to reposition the state and fulfil campaign promises made to the people.

Speaking during the commissioning, Lawal said the reconstruction of the palace for the Sarkin Zamfaran Anka and the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs was aimed at restoring the dignity of traditional institutions.

“I’m here in Anka to fulfil our campaign promises to the people of Anka Local Government and Zamfara State. The official commissioning of the new palace for the Sarkin Zamfaran Anka and the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs concludes today’s activities,” he said.

The governor said he had earlier flagged off the commencement of work on the Anka–Abbare Road, describing it as a vital link that would open up rural communities and boost economic activities.

“This is an essential tributary that will improve access to our hinterland and enhance economic activity and its multiplier effects,” he said.

Lawal also underscored the need to strengthen the civil service through improved working conditions, noting that construction of the new Anka Local Government Secretariat would provide a conducive environment for public servants.

“One key to rescuing Zamfara is restoring decency, honour and dignity to the civil and public service, starting with a conducive work environment for government employees at both state and local levels. I also flagged the start of constructing the New Anka Local Government Secretariat,” he said.

On security and social order, the governor said the Hisbah Commission and the Community Protection Guards required befitting offices to discharge their duties effectively.

“No society can exist without adherence to laid down rules, law and order. The Hisbah Commission and the CPG require suitable offices to effectively execute their functions. I have also flagged off their office construction,” he added.

He described education as the bedrock of development, saying the reconstruction of the Safe School in Anka was part of targeted interventions under the state’s education emergency programme.

“Education is the foundation of society. Our targeted actions under the emergency aim to create a safe, secure and supportive environment for students. I have also commissioned the reconstructed Safe School Anka today,” he said.

The governor stressed that strengthening traditional institutions remains critical to the state’s development agenda.

“Commissioning the new Palace for the Emir of Anka restores the reputation of our traditional institutions, custodians of our culture and heritage. We recognise their contributions to Zamfara’s development and must strengthen efforts to ensure projects endure and align with our traditional values,” he said.

Lawal further disclosed that following the commissioning of projects in Anka Emirate and Tsafe, similar exercises would soon take place in Kaura Namoda and Moriki.

He added that projects in Bungudu, Bukkuyum and Zurmi were on course and would be completed and commissioned before the end of the year.
