Governor Dauda Lawal has distributed 40 vehicles and food items to Imams of Juma’at mosques across Zamfara State as part of a welfare package for Islamic clerics.
The governor said the 40 beneficiaries represent the first batch, adding that the gesture would be extended to other clerics in subsequent phases.
“We have done this because we believe it is right to provide you with cars for easy mobility,” Lawal said during the distribution ceremony.
He noted that his administration was deliberate in designing and implementing policies, stressing that due process and scrutiny guide every decision.
“There is no rush in our agenda. We scrutinise and confirm the integrity and value of every policy and its impact on society before implementation,” he said.
Lawal reminded the clerics of the challenges associated with societal transformation and reaffirmed his commitment to repositioning the state for development.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor, Malam Mani Malam Mummuni, described the gesture as part of a broader welfare programme for religious leaders and urged them to continue praying for peace in the state.
“I believe this is just the tip of the iceberg in Governor Lawal’s welfare package. You should continue to pray for God to handle whoever is aggravating our security challenges,” he said.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Hon. Suleiman Adamu Gummi, said the present administration inherited three to four months’ salary arrears owed to Islamic clerics, which, he noted, had been settled.
He added that the governor had also adopted recommendations from Islamic scholars aimed at promoting development in the state.
The commissioner further commended the administration for efforts to renovate and modernise Juma’at mosques across the state, noting that many of them were previously in dilapidated condition.
