Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, will join other African leaders at the fifth African Sub-Sovereign Governments Network (AfSNET) Investment Conference scheduled to hold in Algiers, Algeria.

The conference is billed for September 6, 2025, on the sidelines of the fourth edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF2025), taking place from September 4 to 10 at the Algerian Company of Fairs and Exhibitions Center (SAFEX).

In a statement, the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said Lawal has been invited to participate in a high-level panel discussion titled, “Investment Showcase: Unveiling Opportunities from Select African and Caribbean Sub-sovereigns.” The IATF2025, convened by Afreximbank in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, is being hosted by the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria under the theme “Gateway to New Opportunities.”

Organisers noted that the trade fair will provide a platform for businesses to access Africa’s single market of more than 1.4 billion people with a combined GDP exceeding $3.5 trillion under AfCFTA.

This year’s AfSNET conference, themed “Local Power, Global Impact: Strengthening Africa’s Sub-Sovereign Governments for Sustainable Development,” will highlight the importance of sub-national governments in driving inclusive growth and regional integration.

The last edition of the AfSNET conference, held in Kisumu, Kenya, gathered more than 45 governors, mayors, local government leaders, investors, and development partners.

It featured high-level dialogues, investment pitching sessions, and B2B and B2G engagements aimed at promoting development-ready projects and exploring financing opportunities.

According to the organisers, Governor Lawal’s participation in the Algiers’ conference is in recognition of his leadership and expertise in sub-sovereign governance and economic development.
