Gov Namadi presents over N901bn 2026 budget

Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, on Tuesday, presented a 2026 Appropriation Bill of over N901 billion to the State House of Assembly for consideration and approval.

Presenting the budget proposal, tagged “Budget of Innovation & Transformation for Greater Jigawa II,” Governor Namadi said N693.4 billion, representing over 76%, is earmarked for capital expenditure, while N208 billion is allocated to recurrent expenditure.

According to him, the government is proposing over N310 billion for the education and health sectors, and about N186 billion for roads and transportation.

He added that N74 billion is allocated for agriculture and livestock, N50.74 billion for power and energy, and N12.68 billion for youth empowerment.

Governor Namadi also disclosed that the sum of N25.4 billion is proposed for water and sanitation, while N35.4 billion is budgeted for environment and climate-related programmes.

In addition, over N288 billion is allocated for the operations of the 27 local government councils.

Governor Namadi noted that the 2026 budget proposal represents a 19% increase over the 2025 budget.
