Speaking during first annual Dialogue seminar series, Hajiya Fatima Yero also noted that in spite of efforts being made by government and relevant stakeholders to address the challenges of girl-child education, about 10.5 million children of primary school age are out of school.
She said: “It is our collective responsibility to contribute our quota towards the development of society, through education. We must equip our children, especially the girl-child, with both Western and religious education for them to become useful citizens.”
She appealed to well meaning individuals to compliment the efforts of government by improving the standard of education in the states and the country at large.
Earlier in her paper presentation titled: ‘The Girl-Child in Northern Nigeria and 21st Century Challenges’,  Dr. Hauwa Evelyn Yusuf said that the northern region had the lowest school attendance rate in the country.
The Special Adviser to the President on Gender issues, Dr. Asma’u Abdulkadir, assured that the Federal government would continue to work to improve the rate of girl-child education.
Also, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Dialogue Group of Companies, Dr. Shehu Mahdi, said the Dialogue Girls Computer Secondary School is a non-profit making institution established to promote girl-child education.
