Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the nation’s registered political parties have been urged to rotate the governorship ticket among the three senatorial zones of each state.
The Advocacy for Rotational Leadership (TAROL) made the call at its inaugural meeting yesterday in Abuja.
National Coordinator of TAROL, Prince Ene Okon, said rotating the governorship seat among the three senatorial districts of a state will reduce ethnic tension and crisis during elections, promote a sense of belonging, and foster peace, stability and unity among the people.
Prince Okon urged political parties and states to learn from Cross River State, which has consistently ensured that the governorship is rotated among the south, central and north senatorial districts.

“Cross River State has an institutionalised arrangement where the governorship rotates from the south to central and to the northern senatorial districts. Recall that even when the PDP, which entrenched the rotation principle in the state circumvented it during the 2023 gubernatorial race, the majority of the people across political divides who cherish the values of rotation, pitched their tenth with the ruling APC to ensure that the southern senatorial district is not denied its next turn to produce the governor,” Okon said.
