Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has provided clarification on the decision to suspend mining activities in the state.
Governor Sule made this clarification Monday in Lafia during the state executive council meeting
According to Governor Sule, the suspension is not a total ban on mining operations for six months, but rather a suspension of new licensing, pending verification of authentic miners.
“The verification process aims to identify legitimate miners and eliminate illegal mining activities that generate no revenue for the state and create insecurity.”
The governor said illegal miners have aided the activities of bandits, kidnappers, and other criminals, explaining that the decision was taken to regulate the industry.
He assured that the suspension would not deprive Nasarawa and other states of revenue.
