The Nasarawa State government is collaborating with the Nigeria Incentive-based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL) to create gainful employment for youths across the state.

They will be trained and given finance to engage in agribusiness.

Governor Abdullahi Sule, while welcoming a special delegation from NIRSAL at the government house on Tuesday said, “We want to keep our youths active; we want to keep them in business, so that they can have something to do, earn income and have independence.”

The governor pointed out that though Nasarawa State is among the few states confronted with the challenge of unemployment, particularly among the youths, the state is however blessed when it comes to agriculture, which explains the need for collaboration with NIRSAL

The governor, however, cautioned that the loan to be secured for the project must not be seen as “another dividend of democracy”.

Earlier, in an opening remark, leader of the delegation, Mr. Sheriff Salawu, Head Collaboration and Partnership at NIRSAL, said they where in the state based on the interest Engineer Sule has shown in the activities of the corporation, stressing that NIRSAL was in the state to, not only support farmers, but also ensure there is development in agribusiness.

“No more as agriculture but as a business so that more people will be lifted above the poverty level and also see it as a business and pass it from generation to generation,” Salawu stated.
