The governor of Ebonyi state, Engr. David Umahi, on Friday blamed an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and former governorof the state, Chief Martins Elechi, over the recent land dispute involving his community Echialke in Ikwo local government and the people of Enyigba in Izzi LGA.

Umahi’s action at the State Executive Chamber, Abakaliki where he held a meeting with stakeholders from both communities, came after he visited scenes of attack on both sides.

He however noted that no amount of killings or politicking would ever be greater than lives of innocent human beings whose corpses he saw during his visit to the areas.

"Today, they are pretending and elders like Martin Elechi are saying that it is politically-motivated; he was the governor of the state and he did not stop the problem when he was in office, instead he buried it.

"And today he had the audacity of calling people and talking rubbish with his mouth. I don’t know why God is merciful to wicked people.

"Otherwise by now he wouldn’t have the mouth to say it. It is terrible that as a governor that something happened in your community and you couldn’t stop it. There is no office that worth the blood of innocent persons in this state.

Governor Umahi noted that government has taken over the lands in dispute.

However, efforts to reach the immediate-past governor, Elechi, who is now a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress proved abortive.
