Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s full support for the Northwest Development Commission (NWDC), emphasising its crucial role in addressing regional security, poverty and infrastructure challenges.
Speaking during a visit by the NWDC management team at the Kano Government House, Governor Yusuf highlighted the severe hardships facing the North West, including widespread insecurity, food shortages and economic difficulties.
He stressed the need for urgent and collective action to address the pressing issues.
Describing the NWDC’s establishment as a timely and necessary intervention, the governor emphasised its potential impact on poverty reduction, hunger alleviation and security enhancement.

To facilitate the NWDC’s operations, Governor Yusuf announced the allocation of land for its headquarters at the former Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV) station along Maiduguri Road.
“I visited the site at night to assess its suitability, and I am pleased to officially hand over the allocation documents today,” he said.
In his response, the NWDC Chairman, Lawal Ismail, commended Governor Yusuf’s leadership and commitment to development, describing him as a leader who prioritises his people’s well-being over politics.
“Kano is the economic and political hub of the North and Nigeria as a whole, and our role as a commission is to support and complement the government’s development agenda,” Ismail stated.
He assured the governor of NWDC’s full cooperation, and working closely with the state government to ensure Kano benefits from key development initiatives.
Governor Yusuf reiterated Kano’s dedication to partnering with the NWDC and urged all stakeholders to unite in addressing the region’s socio-economic challenges.
“We must work together to overcome the North West’s difficulties. With strong collaboration between the state government, the commission, and the people, we can build a better future for our region,” he added.
