Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved the sum of N21.89 billion for the rehabilitation and upgrading of the Challawa and Tamburawa Water Treatment Plants as part of efforts to improve water supply across the state.

The governor disclosed this during the Hawan Nasarawa (Sallah homage) in Kano, where he assured residents that his administration remained committed to addressing the persistent water supply challenges facing the state.

A statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said the approved amount comprises N9.9 billion for the rehabilitation of the Challawa Water Treatment Plant and N11.99 billion for the upgrading of the Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant.

Yusuf said the projects were designed to ensure regular and sustainable pipe-borne water supply to residents of Kano metropolis and surrounding communities.

He described access to clean water as one of the top priorities of his administration, assuring residents that the government was determined to restore effective water supply before the end of 2027.

According to him, the rehabilitation and upgrading of the major water facilities would significantly improve water production and distribution across the state.

The governor said his administration would continue to invest in critical infrastructure aimed at improving the living conditions of the people.

He also announced plans by the state government to provide fertilisers to farmers at subsidised rates during the current rainy season to boost agricultural production and enhance food security.

According to Yusuf, the intervention is intended to reduce the burden on farmers, improve crop yields and support efforts to strengthen the state’s agricultural sector.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to infrastructure renewal and agricultural development, describing both sectors as critical to the economic wellbeing and prosperity of Kano residents.

He urged residents to continue supporting government programmes aimed at improving service delivery and accelerating development across the state.
