Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the sum of ₦3,039,878,601 for the general renovation and upgrade of 13 public boarding schools across Kano State, which were previously closed by the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, Ibrahim Adam, and made available to journalists on Wednesday in Kano.

According to the statement, the renovation became necessary due to the dilapidated state of infrastructure in the affected schools, which led to their closure under the previous administration.

Ibrahim said the current government is committed to reviving and repositioning the educational sector, especially in rural communities.

“The approved boarding schools for renovation are: GGSS Unguwar Gyartai, GGSS Gezawa, GGSS Sumaila, GGSS Kwa, GGSS Albasu, GGSS Madobi, GGSS Yar Gaya, GGSS Jogana, GGSS Danzabuwa, Unity College Karaye, GGU Kachako, GGSS Jambaki, and GC Tudun Wada,” the statement read.

Ibrahim Adam noted that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is deeply concerned about the neglect suffered by the education sector in the past, particularly the condition of these 13 schools, most of which are located in rural areas of the state.

He explained that the renovation will not only provide a conducive learning environment but also restore access to quality boarding education for students from underserved communities. “The decision to revamp these schools reflects the administration’s determination to prioritize education as a foundation for long-term development,” Ibrahim stated.

The special adviser further noted that the Governor appreciated the support and cooperation of the people of Kano State in implementing people-oriented projects and policies.

Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving access to quality education and ensuring no part of the state is left behind in the government’s development agenda.
