Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has flagged off the distribution of 54,600 bags of rice to cushion the hardship faced by residents of Kano State during the Ramadan period.
The flag-off ceremony, held on Saturday at Maganda Road in Kano, marked the commencement of the annual Ramadan support programme.
In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor described the exercise as a yearly tradition aimed at assisting the less privileged during the holy month.
He said the intervention would cover all the 44 local government areas of the state and other selected beneficiaries.
According to him, a total of 91 trucks of rice, equivalent to 54,600 bags of 50kg each, would be distributed across the state.
Out of the total, 44 trucks would be allocated directly to the 44 local government areas, while the remaining 47 trucks would be distributed to selected groups and individuals to support them during the fasting period.
To ensure transparency and accountability, the governor announced the constitution of committees at both state and local government levels to oversee the supply, distribution and delivery of the rice.
