Denja, who is immediate past Chairman of the Abuja chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses (NANN) stated this Saturday, at the commissioning of Ady Suites, Restaurant and Gardens at Nurses Estate in Karu, Nasarawa State.
Yahaya said “There are some things that disconnect people from government and accommodation is one of them; for goodness sake we are blessed with abundant land in this country, why should government not make it affordable for people to own their home rather than charge people percentages before allocating a home?
“What stops government from ensuring that once you are working, you get a home and if you want to make it your own, you become owner occupier? From day one you can be paying rent and if you worked for 35 years, you don’t need to move out of the house, it automatically becomes your home.
“But in a situation whereby government asks you to pay certain percentages before you enter the house, where are you going to get such percentages considering the challenges you are facing?”
Speaking on the motivation to build the hotel, he said his desire to be a job creator and to show people how it can be done pushed him to establish the hotel, after spearheading the union to purchase the land for the estate which has 800 plots including space for facilities carved out from 110 hectares of land.
“We started with 10 employees and when you count me and the General Manager we are 12 but three left for school after working for eight months and saving enough money. My dream is to ensure that Nigerians, especially young people, learn that with determination, commitment and hard work, they can achieve their dreams.”
