This was assumed to be a way of saying that the deputy governor would retain his rights and privileges and will not be sidelined or victimised on account of party difference.
For this, Aliyu received commendation for being a tolerant leader, with many saying he is not moved by party affiliation but that his focus as a leader is for the development of the state.
People recalled that Kofo Akerele-Bucknor, Pauline Tallen and others did not get the understanding of their bosses when they left for different parties.
But even before most of the commendations could get to Minna; the operational base of the chief servant, the man took actions that saw many withdrawing their commendations in mid-flight.
Aliyu, one hot afternoon, barred his deputy from a council meeting and later refused to hand over the affairs of government to him when he was travelling out of the country.
The  governor had explained that the deputy had called him a “thief” at a rally of the APC, saying on that basis the deputy does not have the moral standing to be at a meeting with the leaders of a party he denigrated.
Supporters of the deputy governor say that charge is not a fair one as the chief servant did not stipulate not being called a thief as pre-condition for the deputy to retain his rights and privileges.
They say even if that was the case, the deputy governor has denied calling the governor a thief.  So….?
