Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has ordered the immediate release of N548 million under the Endwell Scheme to the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) for disbursement to its members. This decision brings an end to a three-year dispute between the state government and the teachers’ union.

The Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mubarak Mohammed, disclosed this development shortly after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the NUT leadership and Nigeria Labour Congress NLC leadership in the State

Mohammed explained that the funds, representing statutory deductions from teachers’ salaries meant to support them during service and retirement, had been a subject of contention for several years.

He added that as part of the MoU, the union is expected to withdraw all litigation related to the fund against the government.

He said the dispute predates the current administration, but when Governor Uba Sani assumed office, he decided to address the lingering problem by setting up a committee to resolve it, leading to the signing of this MoU.

“I am pleased to announce that Governor Uba Sani has successfully resolved the long-standing dispute between the Kaduna State Government and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) regarding the NUT Endwell Fund, amounting to N548 million.

“Today, we are witnessing the positive outcome of this initiative, as the Governor has directed the immediate release of the N548 million to the NUT Endwell Fund. This fund, which represents statutory deductions from teachers’ salaries meant to support them during service and retirement, has been a subject of contention for several years,” he said.

Mohammed noted that SUBEB and the NUT had signed a landmark agreement, marking a new era of cooperation and trust.
