Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has refuted reports suggesting that state governors are obstructing federal government’s efforts on the issue of a new minimum wage.
Following the decision by Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, to increase the minimum wage in his state to N70,000, some state governors have reportedly come under pressure.
Speaking to State House reporters yesterday after a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima, Governor Sule clarified that state governors were not opposed to the idea of a new wage for workers.
He said he was unaware of any state where governors were unable to meet the obligations of the old minimum wage.
He said Nasarawa State has been compliant with the N30,000 minimum wage since 2019 and has also implemented promotions and payment of gratuities for workers.

Governor Sule disclosed also that a committee established by the federal government is currently deliberating on the minimum wage, and that governors are awaiting its outcome.
