Governors in various states on Sunday re-echoed the need for love and sacrifice in their Easter greetings to the Christian community across the country.

Gombe State governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, in a goodwill message to commemorate the 2025 Easter celebrations, urged Christians to reflect on the values of sacrifice, hope and renewal that define the season.

Governor Yahaya emphasised the significance of the season as a time to embrace love, unity, and compassion while reaffirming faith in God and service to humanity as exemplified by Jesus Christ.

“Easter symbolises love, sacrifice, and the triumph of good over evil. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our Christian brethren for successfully completing the Lenten season and for celebrating this spiritually significant event,” he said.

He also expressed hope that the blessings of the season would rejuvenate the nation and inspire a collective commitment towards building a peaceful, progressive and prosperous society.

Governor Yahaya also used the occasion to advocate for sustained peace and security, especially in light of recent violent attacks and rising insecurity in some parts of the country.

The governor urged religious leaders to always use their platforms to preach peace, promote interfaith harmony, and strengthen the bonds of unity among Nigeria’s diverse population.

 

Alia urges Christians to pray for Benue

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, in his Easter Message signed  by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Tersoo Kula on Sunday in Makurdi, urged Christians to intensify prayers for Benue people as they celebrate one of the saddest Easter ever in their history.

Alia solicited for prayers, love for one another, forgiveness, sacrifice and reconciliation, saying they are the virtues Christ bequeathed to mankind as a result of his death, burial and resurrection.

He regretted that this year’s Easter was being marked at a time the state came under several attacks, but assured that all would be well soonest.

The governor said his administration was doing everything within its power in collaboration with security agencies, to ensure the safety of all Benue people.

 

Imo

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo has urged Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s reform policies for prosperity, stability and progress of the nation’s economic and social transformation.

Uzodinma’s call is contained in his Easter message delivered at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Parish, Ozuh, Omuma in Orlu East Local Government Area of the state on Sunday.

He commended Tinubu for his bold and pragmatic economic policies which, he said, had made more resources available to sub-national governments.

“His government is reform-driven, which comes with its initial hardship but at the end of the tunnel, I think we are beginning to see the light.

“We may not have arrived at our desired destination yet, but it is evident to all discerning minds that our country is timely on the path of recovery and sustainable growth,” Uzodinma said.

 

Okpebholo calls for unity

The governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, who also felicitated with Nigerians on the occasion of the Easter celebration, called for unity and sacrifice for the progress of the country.

The governor, in his Easter message, said the spirit of Easter resonated deeply with the values of unity, love, and resilience that defined the people of Edo State.

 

Oborevwori felicitates Christians

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, who equally felicitated with Christians across the state, Nigeria and the world at large, urged them to embrace love, peace and sacrifice as exemplified by Jesus Christ.

The governor’s felicitation is contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon in Asaba on Sunday.

He emphasised the importance of Easter as a time for reflection, renewal and hope and called on Christians to embrace the virtues of love, sacrifice, and unity exemplified by Jesus Christ.

 

Lagos

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has urged Christian faithful to reflect on the sacrifice and love Jesus Christ showed on mankind through His crucifixion and resurrection.

Sanwo-Olu, in his Easter message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Gboyega Akosile, rejoiced with Christians in the state as they celebrate this year’s Easter.

The governor implored residents to continue to live in peace, love and harmony, noting that good neighbourliness, selflessness, patience, and love were among the several lessons taught and exemplified by Jesus Christ.

 

Aiyedatiwa greets Christians at Easter

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has urged the people of the state to use the Easter celebration period to promote unity and express love.

This is contained in his Easter message made available to newsmen on Sunday in Akure by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Ebenezer Adeniyan.

Aiyedatiwa urged residents to remember that the scriptural emphasis of love had so much relevance for the peaceful coexistence of the people and development of the society.

 

Gov Diri hosts Christian leaders in Bayelsa

Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri, has acknowledged the role of the Christian community and its leaders in engendering peace  in the state through prayers.

Speaking at his country home in the Sampou community when he hosted leaders and pastors of different denominations on Easter Sunday, Governor Diri said the prayers of Christians were pivotal to the peace of the state.

 

Rivers

The Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (Rtd) has urged Christians to demonstrate kindness and compassion to the less-privileged in the spirit of Easter.

Ibas made the remark in his Easter message made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

He emphasised the importance of peace, unity, and compassion in homes, communities, and the entire state.

 

Atiku urges national unity, love, sacrifice

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has extended his felicitations to Christians across the country during this Easter season, calling for national unity, love, sacrifice among the people.

Atiku also urged Nigerians to imbibe the enduring virtues of love and selfless sacrifice exemplified by Jesus Christ.

In a statement by his Media Office in Abuja, the Waziri Adamawa emphasised that these noble virtues remained indispensable to fostering the unity and cohesion Nigeria so urgently requires —especially in a time when narrow, sectional interests threaten to erode the bonds that hold the nation together.

“This weekend, we join our Christian brothers and sisters in celebrating Easter — a sacred moment that commemorates the profound sacrifice of Jesus Christ. It is a season that calls for deep introspection, compassion, and reaching out to those in need,” Atiku stated.

He called on Nigerians of all faiths and ethnicities to unite in prayer and purpose for the peace and progress of the nation.

“Let us remain steadfast in the pursuit of unity across every divide. Our strength as a people lies in our togetherness. A nation united shall always endure and flourish,” he added.

Expressing optimism, Atiku declared his belief that Nigeria shall overcome her present trials. “Though evil may momentarily cast a shadow, the collective goodness and resilience of Nigerians will prevail. In unity and shared purpose, our nation shall rise,” he said.

He also urged Nigeria’s leaders at every level to use the Easter period as a time of introspection, embracing the spirit of the season to recommit to their sacred duty of service.

“Our leaders must be guided by the principles of sacrifice, love, and charity. It is only through sincere collaboration that we can heal our divisions and renew our national hope. We must resist every attempt to deepen fault lines, for our challenges are not born of ethnicity or religion, but of a failure to build common understanding.”

 

FG expresses commitment for sustainable peace, security in N/Delta

The federal government through the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) has expressed its commitment to the implementation of the programme’s mandate for sustainable peace, security, stability and development of the Niger Delta region.

The Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Dr Dennis Otuaro, in his Easter message, also called on the people of the Niger Delta to reflect on the essence of Easter and show love to one another.

Otuaro in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr Igoniko Oduma on Sunday, also urged stakeholders of the region- men, women, youths and all ex-agitators- to imbibe the spirit of peace, unity, and sacrifice embodied by the Lord Jesus Christ.

He noted that the Easter season was a period to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as God’s precious gift of peace to the world and reconciliation to himself.

Otuaro urged the people of the region to use the season to deeply reflect on the virtues of the Lord and walk in them to ensure peace, stability and harmony in the Niger Delta.

He stressed that Easter called for a re-commitment to the cherished values of peace, forgiveness, kindness and service.

He also enjoined stakeholders of the Niger Delta to continue to support President Bola Tinubu and his administration’s noble reforms aimed at achieving economic recovery and shared prosperity for all.

Similarly, a former governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has felicitated Christians in Kogi State and Nigeria as a whole on this year’s Easter celebration, urging them to be guided by the lessons of love, sacrifice, peace and unity.

Bello congratulated the Christian faithful on the completion of the 40-day Lenten period, saying their prayers, during the period and beyond, would aid the continued actualisation of the laudable goals of the President Bola Tinubu administration.

In a goodwill message, signed by the Director of his Media Office, Ohiare Michael, the former Governor emphasised the significance of the season, noting that the lessons “Transcend religious and cultural boundaries and serve as the bedrock of harmonious coexistence.”

He specifically commended the harmonious relationship between Christians in Kogi State and adherents of other faiths, and urged Kogites to continue to support the administration of his successor, Governor Usman Ododo, in delivering the dividends of democracy to everyone, irrespective of religion or ethnicity.

The former governor urged all Christians to be guided by the timeless values of peace, compassion and unity preached by the season.
