Gov’ship tussle: Aliyu, APC drag Tambuwal to Appeal Court

Aminu Tambuwal, Sokoto state governor.

The Sokoto State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 elections, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu and his party have dragged Governor Aminu Tambuwal to the Court of Appeal, Sokoto.

A member of APC’s legal team, Barrister Bashir Jodi, disclosed that Aliyu and his party yesterday filed a notice of appeal against the recent judgement of the Sokoto Election Petitions Tribunal that upheld the victory of Tambuwal of the PDP.

This came exactly two weeks after the tribunal in its October 2, 2019 verdict dismissed Aliyu/APC’s petition against Tambuwal’s election for the inability of the petitioners to discharge the burden of proof and establish the two grounds of the petition.

The petitioners had alleged that Tambuwal was not duly elected by majority of the lawful votes cast  at the elections, and that the election was invalid  by reason of non-compliance with the provisions  of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended).
