 The President of the State of Palestine, Mr Mahmoud Abbas, has called on the United Nations to convene an international peace conference over the issue of Israel’s “illegal” settlement activities in West Bank, East Jerusalem Gaza Strip. 

He also urged the world body to set up an international mechanism and a time frame to end Israel occupation in Palestine. 

Abbas made the call on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. 

The President, whose speech was read by the Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria, Saleh A. Fhied, during the commemoration of the day in Abuja, said the peace conference was necessary to pressure Israel to implement all the signed peace agreements. 

Abbas noted that the attacks against Palestinians are purely political not religious, saying “There is no animosity between us and the Jewish faith and its followers. Our animosity is towards the Israeli occupation of our land.”
