Making the observation during a press briefing, Dr Gwarzo, said Kano State government had teamed up with the Kano emirate council to thwart any moves for creation of more states from Kano.
The chairman said the need for the creation of more states had become necessary in view of the fact that Kano State as it is presently was the least among the 36 states of the federation when it comes to benefitting from dividends of democracy. He therefore reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that no stone was left unturned in the actualisation of their mission of splitting Kano into more states.
“The Kano State people are terribly poor, development could only be seen in the Kano metropolis because some people are against the creation of more states, it is terrible that when you give Senator Kabiru Gaya N10 million to execute certain project in the Kano south senatorial district the same amount will be allocated to a senator in Bayelsa State whose senatorial district consists of only three local governments, and yet due to selfish interest people within us block our chances”, the chairman said.
Dr Gwarzo said the proposed Gari State said had a lot of potentials, saying the area was rich in mineral and agricultural resources as well as eight unused dams that could sustain its development if given state.
He added that if Gari state was created, development would be spread so as not to repeat what happened in the present Kano State, where development was concentrated only in the city; creating artificial poverty in the rural local governments.
