Malami, who spoke in Sokoto during a press briefing, said: “Since the creation of Fertilisers Marketers Association, Sokoto State Chapter, we haven’t received support from any government, despite the fact that we are the backbone of any type of farming in the state. Government hasn’t considered us important, that’s the reason there is no improvement in the farming sector in the state.
“Now that there are innovations in farming, we have four types of fertilisers, liquid fertiliser, NPK, Urea and Agro, but most of the farmers don’t have the knowledge of how to apply them. They also don’t know how any of them works. Government didn’t involve the dealers of fertilisers in the system of fertiliser distribution.”
He welcomed the programme introduced by government of distributing fertiliser through cell phones, calling for the involvement of his association in the distribution process.
“I also want to remind government that it has taken our names and promised to give us loan over 3 years ago, but nothing has been done till date. Our members are suspecting whether we have collected and cornered the money.
“I am amazed with the way our leaders are dealing with agricultural matters because there is no sector that will bring resources more than the agric sector.”
