Banning gala nights and other social events perceived to be promoting immorality by the Hisbah Board in Jigawa State is generating mixed feelings among those affected.

The state’s History and Culture Bureau had written to the Hisbah Board informing it’s commandant of the ban on gala night events throughout the state.

However, the Chairman of the Youth Drama Entertainment Association of Nigeria in the state, DJ Kawu Birnin Kudu, said if given the chance they would use the gala entertainment business to reduce prostitution in the state and even generate income for the state government.

DJ Kudu, alias KKRK, one of the organisers of the gala nights, said that they expected the state government to appreciate their potentials instead of banning their activities, noting that they were promoting social activities contrary to what some people thought.

He explained that residents and visitors usually eased their stress after the day’s hard work at the entertainment centres.

He further said that their work was purely to reduce restiveness among adults and youths; for them not to engage in social vices.

However, the head of investigation of the Hisbah Board, Mallam Adamu Musa, said the clampdown on the gala centres across the state was yet to commence, but that they were working to reduce social vices.

Meanwhile, some residents of Dutse shared thier views on the issue. Bala Adamu said he was happy that the Hisbah stopped the gala nights in Dutse, explaining that strange faces were always sighted which usually created fear among residents.

He, therefore, called on the government to put more measures in ensuring the total ban of gala nights in the state.

Another resident, Is’haq Ibrahim, said, “With the ban, there is no any entertainment in the state capital when workers close from their offices.”

He further said that the gala people made traders to make brisk business along the line, but that there were security breaches due to strange faces.

Other stakeholders believe that the rampant cases of immorality was because of unemployment among youths in the country, calling on the government to act fast to arrest the situation for the betterment of Nigerians.
