The Nasarawa State Government has expressed deep concern over the 430,787 out-of-school children in the 13 local government areas of the state.

The Project Coordinator of Adolescent Girl’s Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), Mrs Aishatu Aliyu-Isoga, who disclosed this at a one-day stakeholders’ engagement and sensitization workshop in the state, said the record was generated from the Annual School Census (ASC), of the state’s ministry of education between 2020 and 2021.

According to her, the main project development objective was aimed at tackling barriers to girl child education and also to improve secondary school education opportunities for adolescent girls in targeted areas of participating states, including Nasarawa.

She, however, hinted that the state has concluded plans to renovate 690 schools under the school’s improvement grand, noting that there was provision to construct 15 new schools for junior secondary schools and 15 for senior secondary schools across the 13 local government areas of the state.

Earlier, while opening the one-day workshop on adolescent girls’ initiative for learning and empowerment, the state Commissioner of Education, Dr John Mamman, explained that the project was in line with the federal government’s commitment to promoting gender equality and girls’ empowerment.
