He said the success rate recorded in IVF so far in Nigeria is a testament that should encourage alternative reproductive method as many homes are being torn apart due to childlessness.
Dr. Ajayi, who is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nordica Fertility Centre, spoke in Lagos when the first baby implanted through IVF at the centre, Julian Onwudinjo clocked 10 years.
He said the initiatives related to reproductive healthcare have also gained tremendous momentum and has played an indispensable role in the preservation and promotion of bringing joys to a lot of home.
The medical expert explained that “infertility is a social problem, government should establish more centre for IVF and encourage public servants with fertility challenges to go for it as part of the welfare package as been done in some corporations.”
He reiterated that lack of information about fertility options added with the stigmatization associated with childlessness has contributed to the reason many Nigerians refuse to explore the possibility of assisted conception.
Mother of Julian, Mrs Franka Onwudinjo expressed her joy and advised women with similar challenges to toe her line describing the method as safe and reliable adding that Julian represents a new beginning in the history of Nordica and a new hope for parenthood.
Master Julian Onwudinjo, a basic six pupil, who was highly elated said he wished to become an engineer.
