The Sokoto State Government has approved the upgrade of one hospital in each of the three senatorial zones to premier health institution status.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal disclosed this while addressing stakeholders in the health sector at the on-going 56th annual conference of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), revealing that two general hospitals would be completely renovated and the state Amanawa Leprosarium would be converted to an infectious diseases hospital.
He added that plans were at advanced stage to launch emergency centres for treatment of road traffic accident cases along major highways in the state, and that there was a commitment towards establishing cardiac and renal centres to ease the hardship of transporting patients for treatment to other countries.
