General-Secretary of the union, Comrade Peters Adeyemi, said in Lagos weekend that the Federal Fovernment signs different types of trade agreement with other countries without putting into consideration the interest of Nigerians
Adeyemi said “It is unfortunate that the government because of its collaborative tendencies is ineptly rooted in corruption to the extent of not protecting the interest of an average worker in the country.”  
He noted that the untoward practice is difficult to thrive in the universities where his union operates or in the colleges of education in Nigeria because the union will fight the contractors to a standstill.  
“Slave labour is only possible in the private sector where people can do all sorts of things and get away with it, but I assure you that both the government and the trade unions should share the blame,” he said.
Speaking on the proposed labour reforms by the federal government, Adeyemi said the development was a needless exercise and a misplaced priority.
“I am a little bit sceptical when government talks about labour reform. I think labour has the responsibility of reforming itself rather than surrender itself to government for reform.  So, my opinion is that, government appears to be chewing more than it ought to chew, more than what its mouth can actually contain. Government appears to be putting its nose and its mouth virtually everywhere. They are talking of reform everywhere but there is no positivity in all these attempts to reform everything,” he said.
