The first general secretary of Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, (NITP) and only surviving member out of the nine founding members of the institute, Chief Goke Adediran, has called on government to make use of the services of professional town planners to avoid chaos in the society.

He said when the association was founded 50 years ago, town planners were accorded respect and worked tirelessly to properly design major cities in the country while still in service.

According to him, there were planning administrations established in the various provinces during the colonial days but nobody to enlighten the public about the usefulness of town planning, which made the founding fathers initiate the body.

Adediran, who lamented that the inputs of professional town planners are not adequately publicised, also expressed happiness that people were now rallying round to give the institute its pride as an important professional body.
