The birthday kitty played at the IBB International Golf Ccourse saw other prominent personalities like the Emir of Sulejah, Alhaji Mohammed Awwal Ibrahim,The Director General of the Nigeria Tourism and Development Corporation, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, former Chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum, IBM Haruna, Architect Abubakar and Gadzama’s eldest son, Madu Joe playing to celebrate the legal luminary’s birthday.
Speaking to reporters after teeing off, General Gowon said he had to shelve other commitments to play the birthday kitty because the celebrant deserves to be so honoured.
The former Head of State wished the celebrant many happy returns and success in all his endeavours just as he maintained that Gadzama has a bright future ahead of him.
His words: “He is celebrating his 50th birthday and I want to thank him very much for this invitation and the opportunity to play but most importantly to wish him many many happy returns. I wish him a happy birthday and continued success. He is a successful young man already. I call him a young man because he has to clock another 25 years before he catches up with me. I wish him all the very best.
On his part, Gadzama, a former captain of the IBB Golf and Country Club expressed appreciation to God for his life and other numerous blessings which he said he cannot enumerate.
He said the best way to show appreciation to God is to bring together his friends to play and join him in celebrating his 5oth birthday anniversary as he said life is not about the milestones but the moments which must be celebrated at all times.
“I want to appreciate God for the gift of life and privilege of being in existence. It is not by one’s might or wisdom but by the grace and blessing of God that we are alive. There is need to appreciate God, friends and all those around us. This is the essence of this birthday kitty.
“The game of golf has been part of me for the last one decade, having imbibed it as part of my culture because of the obvious benefits. So I have a duty and responsibility to promote the game. Moreover, in golf there is friendship and I have a passion for it. Life is not just about milestones but at about moments. You have to enjoy every moment of it”.
Gadzama, a sponsor of an annual golf tournament reiterated his commitment to the sport as he said it is his own way of supporting golf and giving something back to the society.
The birthday celebration ended with a cocktail party for the celebrant’s friends and other well wishers at the IBB Golf Club.
