A former Chairman of Gombe State Sports Commission, Mallam Farouk Yarma, has said high-profile friendly matches will make it easy for Coach Eric Chelle to rebuild the Super Eagles.

The three-time African champions were held to a 2-2 draw by Poland on Wednesday in Warsaw and are gearing up for another international friendly with Portugal on June 10 in Leiria.

Speaking with Daily Trust yesterday, the proprietor of FC Yarmalight and former Commissioner of Youth Empowerment in Gombe State commended the Super Eagles’ sterling performance against Poland.

“The Super Eagles gave a good account of themselves against Poland. They deserved the win but their hosts also fought so hard to avoid defeat in front of their home fans.

“I urge the players to maintain the momentum against Portugal. They should be reminded that some of the mistakes they made against Poland won’t be left unpunished by the star-studded Portuguese national team,” said Yarma.

The politician and youth advocate also commended the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for responding to calls for quality international friendly matches for the Super Eagles.

According to him, apart from enhancing the image of Nigeria among footballing nations of the world, victories in Grade A friendly matches would also boost Super Eagles’ rating by FIFA.

 “Chelle needs these top friendly matches to test the new players he is scouting around the world,” he concluded.
