Yakubu Dogara, Chancellor of Achievers University, has charged the institution’s graduating students to carry their education beyond academic success by embracing leadership, ethical conduct and global relevance as they step into the wider society.
Dogara gave the charge in a goodwill message to mark the university’s 15th Convocation Ceremony and 18th anniversary, describing the occasion as a defining moment not only for the graduating class but for the institution’s continuing role in shaping responsible future leaders.
He said the university’s steady rise over the past 18 years reflects deliberate planning, institutional discipline and a commitment to quality education, noting that Achievers University was founded to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and moral responsibility.
Despite being absent from the ceremony due to official duties, the Chancellor said his thoughts and support were firmly with the university community as it celebrated academic excellence, institutional endurance and the successful completion of another academic cycle.
Dogara praised the Governing Council for providing strategic oversight and policy direction that have strengthened the university’s academic culture and governance framework.
He also commended the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oyesoji Aremu, for sustaining stability within the system while expanding teaching standards, research capacity and community engagement.
The Chancellor acknowledged the dedication of academic and non-academic staff, noting that their professionalism and sacrifices remain central to the university’s progress. According to him, the quality of graduates produced by any institution is a direct reflection of the commitment of its workforce.
Addressing the graduating class of 2025, Dogara said the degrees awarded represent both achievement and obligation, urging the students to see themselves as representatives of the values and standards of Achievers University in every sphere of life.
He cautioned that the contemporary world is defined by uncertainty, competition and rapid technological change, stressing that only graduates who combine knowledge with integrity, adaptability and sound judgment will remain relevant.
Dogara urged the graduates to pursue excellence without compromising ethics, to build careers anchored on competence and character, and to ensure that their personal ambitions translate into positive contributions to society.
He also acknowledged the role of parents and guardians, describing their sacrifices as fundamental to the success being celebrated, and thanked them for their confidence in the university’s capacity to train their children.
The Chancellor expressed appreciation to alumni, partners and benefactors of the institution for their continued support, stating that sustained collaboration remains critical as the university seeks to deepen research, innovation and global engagement.
Reaffirming his commitment to the institution, Dogara said Achievers University is well positioned to expand its academic footprint and influence, provided it maintains discipline, quality assurance and strategic investment in human capital.
He charged the graduates to move forward with confidence, resilience and a strong sense of responsibility, assuring them that they have been equipped to compete, lead and contribute meaningfully in Nigeria and beyond.
